Astronauts Jerry Ross and Jim Newman train for one of the spacewalks they will perform as they begin assembly of the International Space Station. Ross and Newman are in the Sonny Carter Training Facility, a giant swimming pool-type facility opened in 1997 at the Johnson Space Center specifically to accommodate training for station assembly. The spacewalks by Ross and Newman finalized the connection of a module called Node 1 and the Zarya module, which was launched earlier aboard a Russian rocket.

In this view, a mockup of the node is on the left. On the right is a mating adapter which will attach to the Functional Cargo Block.
